wireless industry. Dayakar Paskoor, CEO, JP Mobile, Inc presented the award.

ENTERPRISE
MOBILITY SUMMIT 2003 was a sold-out event held at Bellevue Hilton, with leading
wireless visionaries holding an engaging discussion on the future of the
wireless industry. In addition to event moderator Keith Grinstein, the
panelists included T-Mobile's Senior Director Product Development Todd
Achilles, Handspring's VP of Business Markets Kendall Fargo, Cingular's
Executive Director Andrew Hebert, Verizon Wireless' Senior Manager of Strategic
Partnerships Chuck Berman and Microsoft's Shai Guday, Group Manager, Windows
Networking Wireless & Mobility. Keith moderated the discussion admirably.
The 80-minute, free-flowing discussion of ideas touched upon a variety of
topics, including the gamut of wireless alphabet soup - 3G, UMTS, GPRS, WCDMA,
CDMA 1XRTT, Wi-Fi (802.11x), bluetooth, and ultrawideband. The common theme
focused around the enterprise wireless-services market, which remains in its
infancy due to the fact that a credible return on investment continues to elude
CIOs. It was pointed out that wireless carriers have promoted data services in
a big way, but continue to earn revenues primarily through voice services. A
lively Q&A session ensued, with the audience responding enthusiastically.
According to Wireless SIG chair Miten Mehta (former VP, Infospace), "It is
an honor and a challenge to foster mind share on the future opportunities in
the mobile enterprise landscape. TIE events continue to serve as an ideal
setting for new ideas and knowledge sharing." TiE Seattle's next 2003
Wireless SIG event is planned for October 16. Vijay closed the event on a
positive note, announcing TiE Seattle's upcoming event on June 24,
"Investing For Change," which will bring leaders from the
intellectual, donor, and financial community to discuss issues surrounding
social investing in the changing development paradigm.
